AMS Prof Arjan van Timmeren appointed Scientific Director of AMS Institute

Prof Arjan van Timmeren is appointed new Scientific Director of AMS Institute. To date, Prof Van Timmeren has been heavily involved with the AMS Institute as lead Principal Investigator. In his new position as Scientific Director, Prof Van Timmeren’s responsibilities include guiding the AMS Institute through the rapid further development and execution of an innovative and creative research and valorisation portfolio, as well as overseeing education and data platform activities. In this role, he will be working with a team of AMS scientists from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Wageningen University and Researchcentre (Wageningen UR) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In addition to the Scientific Directorship, Prof Van Timmeren will also continue to chair his Environmental Technology & Design research group part-time at TU Delft.

Over the years. Prof Van Timmeren has played a significant role in integrating technologybased metropolitan solutions for sustainable cities, both in practice and in academia. He has excellent experience in joint academic-industrial consortia, as well as collaborations within innovation and implementation trajectories with industry. Through his position and his research group at TU Delft, he is involved in many projects within the Netherlands and abroad, ranging from individual buildings, or clusters thereof, to large ‘climate neutral’ city districts and infrastructure. He has received national and international awards for his work and holds a seat on a number of advisory boards, quality teams, expert committees and scientific committees around the world.
