Saskia is the Program Developer for the Urban Energy research theme at AMS Institute. She links researchers of AMS Institutes’ academic partners with all upcoming energy challenges of the city, relevant local stakeholders and networks. As a program developer, she is tasked to speed up initiatives for innovative research projects, to monitor how the current projects are doing and to communicate research results.

Her recent work includes the set-up of the Energy Innovation Lab in Amsterdam Zuidoost, which aims AMS Institutes efforts on a geographical area chosen for its characteristics - existing initiatives, building stock, business area, residents profile. She also organizes a meetup with researchers on AMS Institutes smart grid projects, which are ongoing in the city.

Strapped for time after having started a family, Saskia still hopes to pick up music lessons again. Every now and then, she participates in one-day think tank events. For instance, one event explored how to renovate a central train station allowing all flows to continue during renovation or how to merge two public organizations into one.

With a background in interdisciplinary social sciences, Saskia easily relates to various social challenges in the city related to energy. She is always enthusiastic to develop technical solutions to overcome those challenges. She believes that full motivation and belief in what and why one is doing to generate the work. Personally and professionally, she is interested in energy transition and sustainability in the broader sense and also actively making a difference, such as by making her household and behavior more sustainable.
