Claudiu Forgaci is an architect and urbanist, currently engaged in understanding how spatial urbanisation patterns, at multiple scales, are related to urban resilience, that is, the capacity to deal with (and learn from) change, both in the form of large shocks (earthquakes, crises, etc.) and chronic stresses occurring in the everyday life of cities. Claudiu has been developing a spatial-morphological approach to urban resilience, with an emphasis on properties of resilient urban systems which can be translated into design and planning guidelines. In his PhD research on social-ecologically integrated urban river corridors, he has employed GIS-based analyses and design workshops as complementary ways of approaching integrated urban design. His current focus is on a multi-scalar framework which integrates green-blue infrastructure solutions on local scale and landscape ecological measures on larger scale in a spatial-morphological framework. In order to develop this framework at AMS, he addresses different sites within Amsterdam: along River IJ, along River Amstel, and on the canal network.
