Tegenlicht Meet up Wageningen: the city of the future. More than half the world’s population lives in the city. And it is expected that this percentage will increase further in the coming years, to 70% in 2050. Cities are increasingly confronted with issues such as food, security, mobility, logistics, water, energy, waste, health and well-being.
What does the city look like? VPRO program “Tegenlicht” made a documentary “Making cities: the city of the future” some time ago. On March 26, Impulse is organizing a discussion based on this documentary, a Tegenlicht Meet up Wageningen. Wageningen UR is strongly involved in creating metropolitan solutions for metropolitan challenges. Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS), in which Wageningen UR participates, uses Amsterdam as a living lab, conducts research and provides education along with residents, businesses, community organizations and governments of Amsterdam, who act as principals, testers, users as well as co-creators of sustainable development.
Several experts from AMS Institute and other disciplines will discuss excerpts from the episode “Making cities: the city of the future” and comment from their vision. Themes such as infrastructure, urban development, the importance of green and the capabilities of Big Data will be discussed. Of course there is plenty of room for views from the public.
The Tegenlicht Meet-up: Metropolitan Challenges, is one of the first in a monthly series of Tegenlicht Meet-up organized by Impulse. Every last Thursday of the month there is a different subject from the extensive collection of Tegenlicht documentaries we discuss. Every visitor can participate in the discussion.
