Giacomo is a master’s student in Computer Science at EPFL (Switzerland) and completed his BSc at the University of Bologna (Italy).

His interests and research lie in applying large-scale data analysis, causality, and machine learning (with a particular focus on networks and graphs) to human interaction dynamics, both online and in the real world. He advocates for open data, open knowledge, and sustainable mobility.

As a Visiting Student at MIT Senseable City Lab and Research Fellow at AMS Institute, he analyzes big data in the mobility field. In particular, he is currently working on estimating the impact on travel times of the speed limit reduction from 50 km/h to 30 km/h in urban centers and assessing which street factors lead to compliance with the new speed limits.

“Open data isn't just about transparency; it's key for accountability, it's a gateway for research, and the spark for innovation in public services. They can guide us toward a more informed and empowered society, where knowledge is a shared asset”
