Cities are growing more complex- in terms of urban digitalisation and mobility to energy, climate resilience, food systems, and circularity. Young Urban Engineers (YUE) brings a fresh, research-grounded perspective to these issues, delivering innovative solutions at a fraction of conventional consulting fees.
The Young Urban Engineers recently had a new board and executive director handover. Here they new introduce themselves:
Bianca Zordan
My name is Bianca Zordan. I have a Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Amsterdam and am finishing my last year of the MADE programme. I am an advocate for nature-inspired planning and innovation, and am writing my thesis on biobased electronics for urban sensing. I’ve been really involved in the MSc MADE programme and AMS Institute, from being in the Education Committee, interning with the MIT Senseable City Lab, co-chairing the Programme Committee, and more.
Within YUE, I am one of the executive directors, as well as chair of the Board. So far, I’ve mainly been working on internal operations, strengthening the connection between the MSc MADE programme, YUE, and AMS Institute, as well as focusing my efforts on getting new impactful projects for our students. We’ve also been building a lot of partnerships, getting a new advisory board, and attending a lot of conferences and events. I’m really looking forward to building YUE this year and hiring further more students.
Saba Khan
My name is Saba Khan, I am from the US and I have a bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering with a concentration in Sustainable engineering, energy, and the environment and a minor in theatre. I’ve worked in fast paced manufacturing, marketing, and filmmaking. Now I am pursuing the MADE masters degree, I am on the MADEIt Student Board, and one of the executive directors of YUE! I want to understand all aspects of the relationship between urban living and the earth to then create solutions that make that relationship harmonious rather than harmful.
I joined YUE to learn the ins and outs of consulting for public good innovation and running a foundation. My work for YUE is focused on improving our operations, acquiring exciting new partnerships and projects, and building a meaningful community for YUE and MADE students in the industry of urban innovation!
Charlotte Tang Schmitt
Hi, my name is Charlotte Tang Schmitt and I am a current second year masters student at MADE. I have a background in landscape architecture and am interested in human and more-than-human interaction with green space in urban environments. I am writing my masters thesis on the daily experiences of caregivers accessing green space in Amsterdam and how this can inform urban planning practices. I am one of the three new executive directors for YUE and also serve as Secretary of the new board. So far I have primarily been managing existing projects, to ensure it goes smoothly for both our clients and our talented student consultants!
