The REDOL (Demonstration of Local Industrial-Urban Symbiosis) project is turning that challenge into an opportunity. During the 6th General Assembly hosted by AMS Institute in Amsterdam, partners from different European countries came together to align efforts on transforming solid urban waste (SUW) into new value through circular innovation. The project focuses on advancing five key waste streams: packaging, plastics, construction & demolition waste (CDW), textiles, and waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). By developing and testing innovative waste valorization technologies, REDOL aims to produce 12 new circular products, reduce landfill dependency, and empower cities to become Hubs for Circularity. The assembly highlighted the importance of local ecosystems, cross-sector collaboration, and the need for agile regulatory and technical frameworks.

Among the partners driving this initiative are the AMS Institute, CIRCE, ICLEI, ITA Innova, Universidad de Zaragoza, ICCS, VDZ, RINA, and the Municipality of Prato.

This initiative is tackling the challenge of urban waste inefficiency by fostering industrial-urban symbiosis, connecting cities, industry, and research to close the loop on urban material flows and build a more sustainable Europe.
