These PIs will represent our founding universities (TU Delft, Wageningen University & Research, and MIT) and our industry partners in our mission to make cities more resilient, regenerative, and just.
PIs typically join us for two years, though many continue their affiliation beyond that. They bring world-class academic expertise, hands-on experience, and a drive to collaborate across disciplines to tackle the most pressing urban challenges of our time.
A unique place for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research
AMS Institute offers a vibrant environment where PIs work alongside researchers from other faculties and universities, public and private partners, and societal stakeholders. Together, they co-create the newest insights and innovative solutions in domains such as circularity, mobility, climate adaptation, and inclusive cities, all grounded in the urban context of Amsterdam.
“Our Principal Investigators are at the heart of our academic ecosystem. They bring world-class expertise into direct contact with real-life urban challenges, forming a core part of our formula to bridge science and society. Together, they help ensure that our research is both cutting-edge and grounded in reality and that lessons learned feed back into the universities.” – Prof. Eveline van Leeuwen, Scientific Director, AMS Institute
Project Carousel: connecting projects and people
Recently, all our PIs, both new and existing, came together for our Project Carousel. On this day, PIs could connect, as well as with other AMS colleagues such as Program Developers, Research Fellows, and the Urban Impact Team. They shared thoughts and ideas about their projects and current urban challenges. This interactive gathering showcased the full spectrum of our Research & Innovation portfolio. It included a tour around the Marineterrein area and sparked new synergies among researchers and projects. A great spirit of collaboration and commitment to mission-driven research.
