Our future society will be a circular bioeconomy, combining circularity thinking with biobased resources. This offers tremendous possibilities. Instead of using fossil oil as feedstock, we will have a wide variety of feedstock, ranging from seaweed to hemp, and from wood to organic waste.

We can make facades for buildings from waste water, we can build hotels from cross-laminated timber, and we can make plastic bottles from waste-based bioplastics.

However, the possibilities might be endless, but resources for research and development are not. Simply put, we can only spend our time and money on research and development once.

So, the question arises: where should we spend our limited resources to materialize the circular bioeconomy?

To help answer this question, we developed the Feedstock-Material-Product framework and the accompanying Feedstock-Material-Product Canvas, which will facilitate decision-making in a circular bioeconomy.
