Dr. Gaby S. Langendijk is Program Developer Climate Resilient Cities at AMS Institute, jointly with Wageningen University & Research (WUR). She works at the intersection of climate science, urban planning, climate adaptation, and implementation, with a focus on bridging science and practice. At AMS Institute, she works on developing inter- and transdisciplinary research and innovation projects that support climate-resilient urban development and decision-making in Amsterdam and beyond.
Gaby’s scientific expertise combines climate science, climate services, and modeling with urban adaptation research and decision-support approaches to help cities prepare for climate risks and enable long-term urban transformations. She has worked across collaborations with cities in Europe and beyond, research institutes, governments, and international organizations. Prior to joining AMS, she held positions at Deltares, the Climate Service Center Germany (GERICS), and the UN World Climate Research Program (WCRP), and completed a PhD on climate information for cities.
With over a decade of experience, Gaby has taken leadership roles in national and international research and innovation initiatives, including NWO and EU Horizon projects. She has authored more than 30 scientific publications and numerous policy reports, as well as books. She is actively engaged in the international climate community, including participation in UNFCCC COP meetings and serving as a member on the WCRP My Climate Risk initiative, and she was on the Governing Board of Future Earth.
Gaby is motivated by connecting scientific knowledge with real-world urban challenges and enabling cities to make better long-term climate decisions. She sees Amsterdam as an important living laboratory for developing inclusive and climate-resilient urban futures through collaboration across science, policy, and society.
“Cities hold many of the solutions to climate change — the challenge is connecting knowledge, people, and action.”
