As of January 2022, Lieke started at AMS Institute as the program developer of the Ideal(s) monitor. The Ideal(s) monitor program is about measuring the sustainability goals and ideals of the municipality of Amsterdam. In this program the six different urban challenges that AMS Institute is working on (circularity, climate resilience, digitalization, energy, food and mobility) are combined. It is about taking on an integrated perspective that includes ecological, social and economic aspects.

Lieke has a background in environmental psychology and therefore looks at sustainable development mainly from a human perspective. She previously worked on applied research projects on sustainable behavior and lifestyles and on sustainable urban planning and living, for various organizations including RIVM, IVAM UvA, Tertium and TNO. Next to her work at AMS Institute she is finishing her external PhD project on sustainable behavioral spillovers at the Urban Economics group of Wageningen University.

Although she never lived in Amsterdam, she has been working in Amsterdam for over a decade and got to know and appreciate the city from that point of view. Lieke is driven to work on tackling the issues related to climate change and the focus of AMS Institute and the Ideal(s) monitor therefore fit her perfectly.

“In order to minimize climate change, insights and input from all disciplines are needed, including exact science, behavioral science, humanities and the arts.”

Project

The Ideal(s) City

Circularity in Urban Regions

Amsterdam, just like other cities, faces several urban challenges, whereof most of these are intertwined. The Ideal(s) City project untangles these urban challenges and uses the ocean of information that is already available to gain new insights.
