Tessa works in the Smart Urban Mobility Team. Alongside Tom Kuipers, she aims to find and create opportunities that help cities design just, sustainable, and futureproof transport systems—in general and in Amsterdam in particular. She collaborates with many different stakeholders, from policy makers to pedestrian modelers and from scientific staff to innovative business parties.
Tessa coordinates and initiates various (research) calls or proposals on a national and European level. Two themes she manages are seamless multimodal transport and traffic safety.
Two days a week, she is working on a PhD project at TU Eindhoven (in co-supervision with TU Delft), where she studies the effect of life events on travel behaviour and car ownership. She is also the co-creator of the serious game The Optimal Mix, which facilitates discussions on the concept of broad prosperity.
Tessa: "Cities are unique, almost magical ecosystems where people and ideas connect. The unique role that AMS institute plays in connecting science with practice, for evidence-based, multi-disciplinary progress of these cities, makes it a great place to work."
“I love supporting more liveable cities–especially if ideas and interventions are backed by science and enjoyed by the community.”
