Simone is a Research Fellow at the MIT Senseable City Lab, based at AMS Institute. His work sits at the intersection of urban ecology and artificial intelligence, and he is currently involved in the Sensing Garden project, which aims to develop a smart camera capable of automatically detecting and classifying insects in real time using AI.

His research focuses on developing machine learning models for insect recognition. He is also contributing to a project funded by OpenAI that explores how GPT models can be used to train smaller, more specialized AI systems. More broadly, his interests include climate change mitigation in cities, with a particular focus on carbon dioxide removal technologies.
