AMS Institute is proud to continue its role in the second phase of Toekomstbestendige Leefomgeving (Future-Proof Living Environment), a national innovation program that is entering its next stage with support from the Dutch National Growth Fund and program partners.

The programme now shifts from developing and validating innovations to scaling proven solutions for widespread adoption. Through 2028, the second phase is backed by a combined investment of €72 million from the Dutch National Growth Fund and programme partners, supporting the large-scale implementation of innovations needed to address the Netherlands' housing and infrastructure challenges.

In the second phase, the programme will be organised around six innovation pathways, each focused on scaling solutions for major challenges in the built environment. As partner with a coordinating role for the consortium Infra, AMS Institute contributes to three of these pathways: Tijdloze grachten (Timeless canals), Toekomstbestendige bruggen (Future-proof bridges), and Circulaire wegverhardingen (Circular road pavings).

These pathways focus on data-driven asset management, extending the lifespan of existing infrastructure, and accelerating the adoption of circular approaches to road construction and maintenance. Together, they help reduce emissions and resource use while making Dutch infrastructure more sustainable and future-proof.

“The focus in the second phase is on implementation and scaling up. By working together across the sector, we can help bring proven innovations into everyday practice and make important steps towards transforming the sector.”

Maria Klönhammer

Consortium Manager Infrastructure of the Future-Proof Living Environment program

By bringing together governments, industry and knowledge institutions, the programme aims to remove barriers that prevent innovative solutions from becoming standard practice. More than 100 public and private organisations are involved, working together to accelerate the transition towards a more productive, sustainable and future-proof built environment.

“This program shows the strength of long-term collaboration and wanting to find solutions together - either in technology or in learning to trust each other to find common wars of working. We're proud to contribute to innovations that will help shape the infrastructure of tomorrow.”
