We orchestrate innovation for urban transformation by providing a collaborative space where cities and leading tech universities learn and experiment together. We act as a springboard for the next generation of urban innovators. Immersed in Amsterdam as our real-world lab we research, design and share metropolitan solutions for cities around the globe.
AMS Institute is a unique transdisciplinary urban innovation ecosystem, rooted in its founding institutes TU Delft, Wageningen University & Research, and MIT, and shaped by its partnership with the City of Amsterdam. As a thought leader, accelerator, and learning community, we develop groundbreaking scientific insights, imaginative solutions, and impactful technologies. We research critical and interconnected challenges in mobility, energy, circularity, digitalization, food and climate adaptation to accelerate the development of tangible metropolitan solutions.
Our Core Values
Bold: Daring to imagine, explore with scientific rigor to address the real problem, and turn groundbreaking ideas into tangible solutions.
Open: Creating meaningful and long-term collaborations across boundaries with an open heart and mind. Exploring unconventional perspectives whilst connecting with care to society, partners, and each other.
Learning: Shaping future solutions through experimentation, empowering talent, and embracing failure as a driver of iterative change.
Driving Impact: Creating ripple effects to achieve long-term, positive and lasting change across the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, other cities, and our universities.
Our Institute Reports
In recent years, we have shared our journey through several institute reports highlighting our projects, key milestones, and methodology. In doing so, we not only documented our progress but also laid the foundation for a growing community committed to impact-driven innovation.
In 2025, we introduced a new way of sharing our story: the AMS Impact Digest. Concise and dynamic, the digest tells the story of our methodology and projects, bringing to life the tangible outcomes and real change we create together. Our first issue, which reflects on the 2024–2025 academic year, was released in September 2025.
